Eight specially constructed research greenhouses will be available for plant cultivation at the PEAC. These have a number of special technical features. The cooling system, which guarantees precise temperature control in the event of high levels of solar radiation during the summer, is particularly noteworthy. At the same time, newly developed super-transparent glass was used in the construction of the PEAC research greenhouses, allowing natural sunlight to pass through almost completely. Innovative LED lighting allows the outside light to be supplemented in such a way that even the most extreme light intensities can be achieved in a stable manner, regardless of the outside climate. Sophisticated shading systems both outside and inside enable uniform light immission on the test plants at all times of the year. This makes it possible for the first time to simulate complex climate scenarios in greenhouses. The exceptionally high height of the PEAC greenhouses allows the installation of camera systems and sensors for in situ live phenotyping down to cell level. After the phytotrons, the PEAC research greenhouses are the next step on the way to field trials.
